James is now the first player to score 40,000 career points in NBA’s history. Los Angeles Lakers All-Star officially crossed the threshold on Saturday night in the 124-114 defeat from Denver Nages in Crypto.com Arena.
James entered the game on Thursday with 39,991 career points after adding 31 points to his win at the Washington Wizards. He scored his first bucket on the fast break layup in the middle of the quarter on Saturday, and then just minutes later he completed it with 3-pointers
. After this, James started the second quarter by putting a leap through a pair of Nuggets players. Then, after two properties, James made another trimmed after driving through Michael Porter Jr. to get 40,000 career points. James, 39, remains one of the top scorers of the game in his 21st NBA season.
He ranked 15th on Saturday with 25.3 points per game in this season. Since an average of 20.9 points per game as a novice in 2003-04, James has achieved an average of at least 25 points in each of the following 20 NBA seasons. He was the league’s scoring champion with 30 points per game in 2007-08 and has crossed that 30-point average twice in his career.
As long as he’ll be healthy, James estimates his number will keep continuously growing in this season. Lakers are fighting for playoff space as the 10th team in the Western Conference Standing and will continue to remain heavy dependent on James during the season’s stretch run. Can he keep them in a playoff race, or can’t bring them back to dispute to avoid play-in tournaments, see it yet to be found.
James arrived at the threshold a little more than a year after the NBA’s all-time scoring record setting. On February 8 of the last season, James left behind the previous score, making his 38,388th mark, Karim Abdul-Jabbar. Since that, he has been constantly increasing his total, making this record far from the reach of those challenging in the future.
