The acute development in artificial intelligence keeps the ability to change our lives, work, learn and play. However, without legislative inspection, AI pays progress risks that can range from violations of intellectual property and privacy rights to electoral frauds and disruption in our financial markets.
What policies are needed? American senator Mark Warner (D-W) and Todd Young (R-Ind), who has strong track records in bipartial technology law, discussed the AI policy during a comprehensive conversation at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in Washington. D.C. Anna Palme C.E.O Punchbowl News on Thursday morning, Andrew Desiderio co-operated the discussion, the first in The Bridge Event series, which will explore bipartisan policy issues.
After this, two major AI specialists of Johns Hopkins University— Ram Chellappa and K. T. Ramesh, the University’s interim co-director and whiting School of Engineering’s interim co-data science and translation institute, advocated legislative inspection that makes the right balance by protecting citizens and our democracy without interrupting AI development and innovation. Both Warner and Young agreed that AI was a bipartial issue that affects people on both sides of the political corridor.
They also agreed on that MLAs should work fast on AI, how it works should learn its basic principles so that they can make policy decisions that maintain palpitation with technical progress. Young said, “I don’t think it includes bringing lots of new laws. Some of them will be,…[but even more] we’re going to make sure that the laws we’ve already passed are suitable for the AI-enabled world. ” Warner said he believes society needs policies to protect against two imminent threats: AI-generated Deepfec who mislead voters and AI tools that can interrupt financial markets.
Warner said, “We’ve seen the strength of fake and how it could be speed and scale which is unprecedented. He specifically referenced a recent fake robocall in which the voice of being President Biden discouraged the vote of Democrats in New Hampshire Primary, in addition to several deepfakes positioned across Europe.
Examples are Slovakia’s politician Mishal Simeca’s Mangarh Audio Clip which discusses a plan to rige the elections and increase beer prices, and a fake audio of scoring his employees by U.K. politician Kir Starker. Warner said, to implement security, Congress should act fast and cross its disappointing efforts to regulate social media.
We haven’t done anything on social media, despite [bidal-based Russian intervention to exposing abuse in front of our children [with social media] to huge challenge. “Our record is stinking. Warner said he believes it’s too late to improve Section 230, “It’s too late to,” a law that protects the freedom of online expression of individuals by limiting or discouraging extreme views and content moderation of incorrect information that threatens to harm our democracy. Chelappa and Ramesh both agreed that action was needed by Congress.
Ramesh said, “Our competitive advantage as a country has always been in [technology and product] design. There’s a risk that if we don’t jump into it so fast and don’t put railing, [we’ll lose]. ” Chelappa said: What happened with the election in New Hampshire is just the Iceland’s tip, and I am worried about this. ” He said he advocates to work with our partners on national defense and security matters while working globally on issues like health care because everyone wants healthy citizens, [and] AI is going to play a role in all this. ” Ramesh said, AI is not only a bipartial issue, but essentially a.e. every human issue.
We’re all using the same data well. If a poison is dissolving in data, we all get that, so we have to monitor and track what is going by and who is going. ” Chelappa said, the main thing is that there is a need for regulation, but we shouldn’t be more regulation because we still don’t know what AI is capable of doing…and what good things it can do. Chelappa said, “It’s like an unmistakable child. Sometimes very intelligent kids do some silly things, but it’s important to parents to tell the child, ‘Don’t do that. ‘
